"My presentation is entitled “The Three Books that Changed MY Life” (The New Testament, “The Hole in our Gospel/What does God expect of us” by Richard Stearns, and “Half Time” by Bob Buford).  It can be subtitled “How a trip to Uganda ‘converted’ me from being a lifelong Cultural Catholic into being a Committed Catholic”.

I will concentrate on the message of Pope Francis in announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy, and why we need to enrich our lives now and for eternity by stepping back from the distracting details of daily life and career to consider the big picture – we are all on a journey, and we need to be conscious not just of the destination, but also of what we are doing on that journey – what we learn, how we grow, who else is on their own journey, how we can help them and in doing so help ourselves, and what progress we are making in our own personal journey. We have a tendency to consider our “progress” on the journey by the passage of years, hopefully not just on the accumulation of earthly goods, but neither is the important measure."
