Preparing for Persecution

We Christians are members of one body in Christ. We are being beheaded and slaughtered by the masses in the Middle East, Sudan, Nigeria, North Korea - our churches, art, and relics ransacked. Here at home in "civilized" America, we are enduring an unbloody persecution that is rapidly increasing in frequency and intensity.

'Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me."  Matthew 24:9

Should we be surprised?

No. "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived."  2 Timothy 3:12-13

Should we be scared?

We shouldn't fear persecution so long as we persevere in a state of grace. For Christ tells us, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:10

How can we prepare?

Prayer. Sacraments. Spiritual Reading. And listening to great lectures from STMSOC like the one we'll hear this month from H. Victor Condé.
